Sensationally Six

Annnnnnd we are in another struggle with the darn birds again. Seems like the finch don't care about the bird spikes, appears they are small enough to just get inbetween the spikes and not be bothered at all. So we've added the mylar tape back in the mix. That doesn't seem to be bothering them at all either. They are also enjoying our ceiling fan base and the top of the new light fixture out on the big garage. To deter them on the ceiling fan if we see them we flip the switch to turn it on!

This is turning into an annual event...one I an NOT enjoying!

It wouldn't be so bad, I guess, but they poop EVERYWHERE. On the concrete, on the grill covers, on the patio furniture, and on and on. I am forever cleaning up bird poop! YUCK! Stay tuned for the most exciting bird deterrence program around...

Sensationally Six

Yesterday was hard. Yesterday was honoring, Yesterday was necessary, Yesterday is yesterday. 

Yesterday's memories are still fresh, raw. We will move forward. We will enjoy our memories and we will make new ones. We will make it...

Today we are truly thankful to wake to a new day.

Starting in February, after our girl turns six, SENSATIONALLY SIX will make its appearance. I will try to make it a weekly feature (but you know sometimes life happens and there is a lag in postings!) on Wednesdays.

 

The HANDFUL

Our granddaughter, the BEE, is turning FIVE this month. We've been telling her and her cousins she's going to be a whole handful on her next birthday for quite sometime now. So it just seems natural that it would become the name of my weekly prompt for blogging this year.  Start watching for The HANDFUL to make its appearance after her birthday as that will be my weeklyish postings from here on out for 2021.

 Merry, Merry, Christmas from our house to yours!

It is such a joyous season and we are blessed to know we find comfort in celebrating the birth of our Savior in this chaotic world. We are happy to be living the life we have and know that we are nothing without the eternal security we hold in Jesus. This year has been challenging in unimaginable ways for so many, there has been loss, financial despair and so much sadness. And while the days have seemed gloomy we find joy in knowing this is not our forever home. Praying for the year ahead and knowing that truly our blessings are many even in bittersweet situations.

Cherish your moments, love deep and make memories...

UnFOURgettably 4 Friday!

Well, what a week this has been...we started with participating in the local TRUMP TRAIN that took a little spin around town. Nearly 100 cars participated. Lots of honks, waves and thumbs up. 

We added a little RW&B bling to SMARTie for the ride!

These were all sorts of trucks and cars, old and new it was quite a sight.

Now that this election is in the books I do hope we will get back to business in this country. As we have wasted more time and resources on this election then should ever be allowed. It really is shameful and we are still awaiting a winner...oh my!

On a lighter note, I'm now officially at the double nickel...celebrated with a little shopping, eating and indulging. Who doesn't love a good cinnamon roll! We were scheduled to celebrate another birthday this weekend but circumstances beyond our control have taken that off the calendar. There will still be cake though! Cheers to 90 years, dad!

We have birds again! Hummingbirds that is; so we are good with that. They were MIA for several weeks but they are back. Three so far. They were getting along pretty well then one little guy has gotten a bit territorial. He's been quite a stinker to the other two. Just sits and guards it from the atop the hook. They are so entertaining to watch, we love it. We've been watching from inside but hope to be able sit outside near the house in our patio furniture.

It's May! Happy May Day as a little girl I remember hanging flowers on our neighbors doors on May Day. I don't think people in the U.S.A. do that anymore but when we lived in Europe they still did. I almost bought flowers at the grocery store today now I wish I had.

It's been an uneventful week in our area. Pretty much same-o same-o. Wash, rinse, repeat. I'm soooo ready to be able to go North. I'm ready to just be able to get out and about. I realize that is most likely gonna be some time in the future. Just not sure how far into the future. Oh, well, carry on, I suppose, it could be worse! Thankful we are well and those we love are, too.

No more Wild & Three Thursday!

Oh, goodness, it's ANOTHER new year and as the saying goes it sure flew by. Unbelievable in many ways that this year will mark 7 years since military retirement began and the Daughter graduated from college and married. It will also beTrigger's FOURTH birthday next month. Sadly, it has also been 5 years since we lost MiRVs brother. 

It's hard to believe it's really 2020. When I was younger that seemed like a date that was sooooo far away into a future that was hard to imagine I would ever see and yet here we are. I am not a big resolutions advocate as I think fresh starts can be made at any time but hey go for it if you need extra motivation to jump into something because it is after all a new year! Clean slate so to speak. 

It will be interesting to see what this year brings. We are certainly, according to MiRV, planning to get in more traveling in as we have completed many of our house projects. Of course as is the way with homeownership, "there is always something". Our yard is still a work in progress but I fear that will be the case as long as we own this place! Otherwise it's pretty much minor tweaks and keeping the place up. I have always said home ownership is NOT for the faint of heart and I stand by that. Last year we put on the patio cover and it cost waaaaaay more then we planned. ROHO is still being finished when the mood strikes. Since we have it enclosed and have the electricity hooked up we have slowed our work pace.

Wild & Three Thursday!

Total spontaneity kicked in on Sunday and we took ROADA and headed East to Kentucky. First night we found ourselves pulling in to a Lowe's parking lot just to get some rest and hit the road again early the next morning. Louisville is easy to navigate and we found our destinations quickly to begin the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. We are not Bourbon connoisseurs but we thought the whole idea of this trail thing sounded like fun. It was! And educational. Seriously, it was totally educational. And the tastings were informative and educational as well.

We only managed to make seven distilleries. When we originally heard about the KBT tour there were only eight or nine distilleries on the tour. This year there are 14! Yes, FOURTEEN. Needless to say we are planning to return this fall to see it we can make it to a few more.  For me the favorite tour was Maker's Mark. Favorite tasting was Angel's Envy. I loved the Angel's Envy tour, too. It was smaller and more personable but the scale and history along with the gorgeous grounds of the Maker's Mark distillery was second to none. As Angel's Envy is a young distillery their founder and original Master Distiller was not. Lincoln Henderson was the creator of Gentleman Jack and he was the Master Distiller at Woodford Reserve before retiring then coming back to the industry with the creation of Angel's Envy. Speaking of Woodford Reserve their grounds are beautiful and so very picturesque as they are nestled in heart of horse country. However, the tour there was extremely lacking. Perhaps it was an off day for our guide. And since it was our last tour for the trip we were left feeling cheated. Maker's Mark on the other hand hit it on all fronts so that is why they walked away with our vote as favorite! 

We also slipped in a tour of the Cooperage. Honestly, I did not even know what a Cooperage was until after one of our distillery tours. See it's an educational thing to do the KBT! And then to find out that most of the barrels are made from Ozark white oak and that the Cooperage we toured was originally founded in Lebanon, Missouri, well, what's not to like! 

Oh, and hats off to most of the distilleries as they offer military discounts. Some are for only the veteran, some extended their discount offer to dependents. No matter we were delighted to find this out. The discount for an active duty member is even more generous (FREE in many cases) and some of the distilleries also give law enforcement/first responder discounts. And they ask you straight up when you are purchasing your ticket. Awesome, totally awesome! I think (actually, I know) we spent the savings in the gift shops!!! 😋

Great trip, good to be back home but already looking forward to returning this fall!

Shameless Blog Push

Much to my surprise MiRV is blogging again. He has over the years without much regularity but this time he seems gung ho, so gung ho in fact he is now manning not one but T.W.O. blogs. I know right? But who am I to discourage this new found creative energy! 

Psst...he is reading books! Which is totally not something he does by choice. It's all good. Anyway...if you are interested take a click on over and check him out. He is listed in my blogroll too!

There is one on our RV life, aptly named MiRV which is what I call him on this blog. You never know what topic you will find on there, it's not just all about RVing that's for sure!
