Weekend Wrap Up

We were in MO for around 24 hours before we unexpectedly got back on the road to head north...when the daughter calls the parents go! We've been invited to tag along on the house hunting adventure for the weekend!

It was an absolutely beautiful day for travel. Blue skies and light traffic. Only bump was wind. We travelled the country roads mostly alone and it was a good day for a road trip! Not any direct route so getting off the interstate is the only way to get there. Takes just as long to drive into the big city even though we were not going as far north! Oh well!

Anyway, it's always good to see the Buds! We had a whirlwind weekend and call it a success on many fronts. PTL!  There was a lot of exploring, which is always fun. A movie and a few discoveries. There is good Chinese AND Mexican food to be had in this town. Lots of new to do and much yet to be discovered. It will be fun to return in a few weeks.

 They're adorable!

We were the "delivery team" for an Aunty in MO who didn't mail their Christmas! They were too cute opening their gifts.

 Better late than never...

The biggest reason for our trip was to secure housing. They had hoped to become homeowners; however, the market just did not have a lot to offer and there is no use in settling just to have housing. Thankfully, this little rental duplex was stumbled upon and will do them just fine! We think they will be really happy with the extra room (compared to their current 1BR apartment) and enjoy a garage as well as yard (which they don't even have to mow). So excited for them!

"Hay" Minions

You just never know what you will come across when you are out and about on the country roads of Nebraska.

 Aren't they cute?

Of course we had to get one of all of us! Mrs Bud took the dreaded Husker Minion because she was wearing her OU shirt and gave the Husker a thumbs down! There are NO Husker fans in this group!

Wednesday Words - Roosevelt

One's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes... and the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility.
Eleanor Roosevelt

Sometimes the lip service from others sound good to their own ears but when you hear it especially if it is from afar or via a third party it doesn't sound as good. Truly the choices/actions of another are their responsibility and they speak louder than any words ever uttered and you cannot take ownership for things of which you do not own.

Gettin' our Kicks!

It was time to say so long to OK and hello to MO. Our travels would include a scenic route and a lunch stop with a friend from the past. We caravanned from OKC to Tulsa and enjoyed a slow roll on Route 66 for most of the way.

Heading east!

What great history along that area. Another time we will hope to make that journey and make a few more stops along the way. We were headed to a lunch date so only looked with our eyes this time as we passed through and there was plenty of eye candy for sure!

The blessing of the day was lunch with our friends.

Awesome to get caught up and chat about the past and refresh old memories as well as make new ones. It was a wonderful afternoon of fellowship. But let's not talk about the root beer...just take my word for it and don't bother with going out of your way for Weber's Root Beer in Tulsa. We had higher hopes for this destination but it fell short. However, Billy Sims BBQ is decent and worked well for our backup plan.

As we left Tulsa we saw some more really good signs. Even stopped at one of them.

OK Friends

Sometimes it's just cool when things work out for friends to stop by and break bread. That happened last night! Lots and lots of laughter and reminiscing from many, many days ago. It was good to catch up. This family is another testament to why we still have such fond, wonderful memories of our time at Tinker and why we enjoy coming back again and again!

Love these two! Mr Fred is one of the first and only one of a few people to make it to the hospital after Mrs Bud was born since he had base access even during the "lockdown"! He stopped by on his way to church to give a first hand report on us and share the news of her arrival with the congregation since many had not heard she was born with such excitement going on in our world at the time.

Ms Chris even made us sugar cookies! But I loved the orange Jell-O salad the most!

Take Shelter!

If you live in Oklahoma chances are you are going to experience severe weather and chances are that will include tornadoes. This is probably one of the biggest drawbacks of this area; at least for me! I do NOT like severe weather especially of the tornadic type. Since we have been here there have been two severe storms and one did produce a tornado, both came with sizable hail. As I said I am a fan of neither. Having a safe place to go in these storms is comforting and smart.

Our friends who live here are in the market for a storm shelter so we took some time to go looking at the options with them while we are here. It was a learning experience for all of us! Glad I am not in the market for one. Though trying to drive away from the storm isn't always the answer or a smart choice either. Can we just wrap our rig in bubble wrap?

There are several options. Most are in the ground type but that will not do for their situation. No firm decisions but at least they are more aware of their options and can start to do some location planning and decide on their budget for this major purchase.

Wednesday Words - Landor

We talk on principal, but act on motivation.
